Cake Batter

Frosting

- 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candy - 1/4 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

Make the Cake Batter

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Alternately add the flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Beat in the peppermint extract. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the heavy cream and peppermint extract. Fold in the caramel sauce.

Assemble the Cake

Allow the cake to cool completely. Place one layer of the cake on a serving plate. Spread one-third of the frosting over the first layer. Place the second layer of cake on top of the frosting. Spread the remaining frosting over the top and sides of the cake. Drizzle the remaining caramel over the top of the cake and sprinkle with the crushed peppermint candy.
